Harold (Hal) Wolf III is the President and CEO of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). HIMSS consists of HIMSS North America, HIMSS International, cause-based, global membership societies; HIMSS Analytics, the market research and data services group; HIMSS Media, the diversified media and publishing division; PCHAlliance, the Personal Connected Health Alliance; and Health 2.0 the Digital Health Conference—all focused on better health through information and technology.
With nearly 35 years of experience, Wolf is respected internationally as a healthcare and informatics executive with areas of expertise in mhealth, product development, integrated care models, marketing, distribution, information technology and innovation implementation. He has helped health systems and providers across the world with end-to-end operations, commissioning, data and architectural design.
Before joining HIMSS, Wolf served at The Chartis Group as Director; Practice Leader of Information and Digital Health Strategy. As the key architect in the development of content, research and user interface for video on demand and broadband, Mr. Wolf is a pioneer in consumer engagement. He has contributed his unique approach and insights to the birth of the digital health era, combining the traditional enterprise strategy with an end-to-end organizational view while keeping the patient as the central focus.
Wolf also served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Kaiser Permanente’s Permanente Federation representing more than 16,000 physicians. There he was responsible for the development and implementation of critical care delivery strategies, data management and governance, population care management environments and the implementation of unique innovations and large scale programs that impacted end-to-end operations. Prior to Kaiser Permanente, Wolf worked as Vice President E-Business, Chief Information Officer for the Corporate Systems and Wholesale divisions of Qwest Communications/USWest. Previous endeavors include working internationally in the deployment of interactive television services in operations, content and business development; senior business management positions with Time Warner and MTV Networks; and Senior Advisor to McKinsey & Company and ADVI, LLC.
Wolf is a former Vice-Chair of HIMSS Enterprise Board, a Board member of the International Care Delivery Alliance and of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology. He is a visiting professor for Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at the University of South Denmark, the Center for Innovative Medical Technology at the Odense University Hospital in Denmark and Windsor University Odette School of Business, Canada. He also served as a board advisor for the Patient@Home European Union initiative that develops new products for home care while supporting the end-to-end acute care continuum.
Wolf holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from Wake Forest University and a Bachelor of Textile Management from North Carolina State University.
Dr. Charles Alessi is HIMSS Chief Clinical Officer. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge around health and care. He is also Senior Advisor to Public Health England, an executive agency of the UK government. He is also Adjunct Research Professor in Clinical Neurosciences at the Schulich school of Medicine at the University of Western Ontario, Canada and Visiting Scholar at the Odette School of Business, in Windsor Ontario, Canada. He is a primary care physician and was until recently, Chair of the National Association of Primary Care in England.
Tim Kelsey is senior vice president of HIMSS Analytics International supporting the digital empowerment of health and wellbeing around the world. He is an internationally regarded expert in the digital transformation of health and care. He has designed and successfully implemented national digital health strategies in two countries – in Australia, as Chief Executive of the Australian Digital Health Agency (2016-20) and in England, as NHS National Director for Patients and Information (2012-15). He was also National Information Director for health and care in England and Chair of the National Information Board and, before that, the British government's first Executive Director of Transparency and Open Data.
With over 25 years of experience in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Fazilah is presently the Senior Deputy Director of the Planning Division. She has held various leadership roles in Malaysia’s first digital hospital - Selayang Hospital, Telehealth Division, Planning Division and Medical Development Division.
For over a decade, she has been leading digital health & innovation strategies and collaborations both locally and internationally. She often represents Malaysia at regional and global platform in digital health. A significant portion of her career has been in managing and coordinating new health facility development projects, mainly Hospital Information Systems.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she headed the Medical Care Quality Section leading multiple teams in the area of infection prevention & control, occupational safety & health, patient safety and mortality review. She also contributed to the Ministry’s strategic communication team and passionately drove digital transformation within the nation’s COVID-19 response.
Dr. Fazilah holds an M.D. from the National University of Malaysia and an MBA in Healthcare Administration from the University of Toledo, Ohio. She is professionally certified in Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF 9.0) and in Governance & Management of Enterprise IT (COBIT 5.0).
Dr. Helmi Zakariah begins his journey with AIME as the Chief Operating Officer in Malaysia before being appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for AIME INC operation in the Asia-Pacific region effective from January 2nd, 2018. He currently oversees AIME's operation, strategy and business development in Asia and the Pacific.
Dr. Helmi started off his career as a clinician in Seremban General Hospital and subsequently a community clinic in Selangor, before he embarked on Public Health as a district program manager for National Tuberculosis Control Programme.
With an extensive background and experience in the field of Public Health, Dr Helmi was previously with Ministry of Health Malaysia where he co-pioneered the establishment of Global Health Division which strategizes, coordinate, and oversees Malaysia engagement with global health and strategic partnership with international NGO such as the WHO, MSF, ASEAN, South-South Cooperation Centre and the Union of International Cancer Control.
He also has a special interest in Trade & Public Health and was regularly consulted to analyse multilateral trade agreements and its impact on national health policy space. In 2014, he participated in the Joint United-Nations Initiative for Migration in Asia Steering Committee, for his academic and advocacy works in the area of migrant health.
Dr. Helmi Zakariah holds a Medical Degree from Russian Federation, and a Master in International Public Health from Liverpool, United Kingdom. He regularly share his thought as speakers through global cooperative platform such as Chatham House, WEF, and Commonwealth Digital Health Forum.
Dr. Tan Hui Ling is the Managing Director of Bagan Specialist Centre, Penang and Oriental Melaka Straits Medical Centre, Melaka as well as Oriental Nilam College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Melaka. She graduates from the University of Melbourne in medicine, and subsequently completed her Internal Medicine specialist training in Singapore. She is a member with the Royal College of Physicians, UK, and also holds Masters in Public Health from the National University of Singapore, Singapore.
She currently devotes herself to healthcare management in private hospitals & nursing college in Malaysia. Dr. Tan believes in the importance of patient-centred and holistic care for patients, and champions to lead the hospitals to be the leader for value-based, high quality healthcare in the region. She also works closely with start-ups and business associates to improve healthcare delivery through innovation and technology. She believes quality is the best business plan.
Arvind Sivaramakrishnan is the CIO of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd, India and is based out Chennai, India. He is responsible for the IT strategy and implementation across the Apollo Hospitals group. Arvind has extensive experience in management consulting, architecting, and building solutions for enterprise wide applications. He also leads the digital transformation initiatives at the Apollo Hospitals Groups.
He has led Apollo Hospitals in achieving the prestigious HIMSS Level 6 Health care IT maturity model certification in 2013 which is a rare maturity level attained in Asia Pacific Arvind has lead the Apollo team to be recognized with the HiMSS- Elsevier award (2013 , 2016, 2018) for outstanding use of IT in patient care delivery in Asia Pacific . Under his leadership, Apollo Hospitals was awarded the Microsoft Health Innovation award in 2016 for the use of effective big data analytics using Microsoft solution in Infection control surveillance in health systems.
His experience in the domain of health care IT has spanned geographies across the world. Prior to his current assignment, Arvind was with the Healthcare Practice of Computer Sciences Corporation, in Michigan USA.
Arvind holds the credentials of CHCIO certified by the College of Health Information Executives, USA as a Healthcare CIO. He currently serves as the Secretary of CHiME’s India chapter and is a member of the board of CHiME in India. He has been inducted into the CIO Hall of fame by the prestigious CIO.in magazine. In 2019, he was felicitated by CIO&Leader for Exemplary Leadership , Professional excellence and Community contribution.
Apart from ICT solutions in the Healthcare domain, Arvind has keen interest in IT solutions that aid Quality and Service excellence in service industries.
Arvind lives in Chennai with his family and is a very keen Carnatic music enthusiast.
Christian is the Chief Digital Officer of Ayala Healthcare Holdings, Inc. (Ayala Health), a wholly owned subsidiary of Ayala Corporation. Ayala Health aims to build an integrated ecosystem that makes quality healthcare more accessible and affordable.
Previously, he was the Co-Founder and Vice-President of Kickstart Ventures, a Globe-backed venture capital firm for disruptive technologies and business models. Over the past years, he has worked in diverse industries from Telecommunications, Software, Business Consulting, and Finance. He gained international expertise in Startups as well as Multinational Corporations in Berlin, New York, Milan, and Manila.
Christian holds a degree from Columbia University.
Dr. Qiu is currently the Chief Hospital Commissioning Officer at Taikang Healthcare. He is leading and responsible for Taikang’s hospitals and network commissioning, from planning to operation. Prior to this role, he served as Chief planning officer, oversaw the company’s strategy and operations. He spearheaded Taikang’s partnership with Mount Sinai Health System from New York, and led a balanced approach to commission and operate a modern private healthcare network in China.
As an associate professor and the CIO of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH), Dr. Hee Hwang has contributed to both innovations in medical management and developing new business opportunities by converging medicine with ICT. SNUBH is recognized globally as a leading digital hospital since achieving the HIMSS EMRAM Stage7 in 2010 and 2016. As the CIO, he facilitated the development of SNUBH’s next-generation hospital information system (HIS) in 2013. Beyond improving our hospital’s IT environment, he contributed to implementing a standard-based nationwide health information exchange system in South Korea. He conducted to adopt In-Memory based analytics platform into the CDW, enabling real-time analytics of over 500 clinical indicators. He published articles in journals proving the benefit of utilizing Big Data to improve quality of care and patient safety. Throughout his career, he was dedicated to connect the viewpoints between medical staff and IT professionals, providing intuitive awareness to them.
Dr. Shannon Nott is the Rural Director of Medical Services for Western NSW Local Health District. Through this role, he oversees 35 rural and remote hospitals and multipurpose services across western NSW. Shannon also works for the Royal Flying Doctors Service, South Eastern Section as a retrieval and primary care doctor. He works as a GP anaesthetist in Dubbo Base Hospital and has been the clinical lead for establishing Western NSW LHD’s vCare hub – a virtual critical care unit. Through his work, Shannon created Australia’s first Virtual Rural Generalist Service and is Chief Investigator in developing a Virtual Clinical Pharmacy Service for rural communities.
Shannon’s leadership in virtual healthcare has recently seen him appointed as the Clinical Director of eHealth NSW’s Virtual Care Accelerator, a multi-agency, collaborative business unit created to advance virtual health care across NSW. He is also the Chair of the Virtual Health Community of Practice for NSW, providing advice on the state’s COVID response.
In 2014, Shannon was awarded a prestigious Churchill Fellowship, an opportunity to travel through Canada, USA and Brazil looking at ways in which technology can improve health outcomes in rural and remote communities. Since then Shannon has contributed to the advancement of rural and virtual health care across the country. Alongside he current appointments, Shannon is currently on the World Health Organization’s Roster of Digital Health Experts, sits on NSW’s Telehealth Strategic Advisory Committee, is a member on the Australian Digital Health Agency’s myHealthRecord Product Improvement Group and is a member of Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine’s Digital Health Committee. For his work in rural health, Shannon was awarded NSW Young Australian of the Year finalist in 2010, has been the NSW rural representative for the Australian Medical Association and as an advisor to the Rural Doctors Network.
In his spare time Shannon enjoys camping, 4WDing and riding horses having competed in the world’s longest and toughest horse race – the Mongol Derby.
Shehaan Fernando has over 15 years of executive level Healthcare industry experience. Shehaan has a deep interest in delivering Virtual Hospital solutions having now launched several programs in Australia. In these clinical models, a small group clinicians are enabled through technology to drive proactive care supporting large cohorts of patients regardless of their care setting – hospital or home.
He has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering in Information Systems and a Masters of Business Administration. Prior to his current role he has held senior leadership positions in Strategy, Business Management and Commercial Operations.
